Puerto Rico. (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 1871- Barcelona, Spain, 1961). Writer, translator, painter, pianist, singer, musicologist, and music critic. In literature, she ventured into poetry, as well as writing novels, short stories, biographies, and essays. She was close to and committed to the feminist movement, and an intellectual figure in both her native country and Spain, where she lived for more than half of her life. In narrative, her notable works include La Muñeca (1895), Desilusión (1908), Marqués y marquesa (1911), and El asombroso Doctor Jover (1930).
