Media / Marcela Sepúlveda on ADN Chile's Tecnociencia

Who lived in our territory thousands of years ago? Andrea Obaid's interview begins with this question Marcela Sepúlveda archaeologist, Doctor of Prehistory, and editor of the book Histories of Archeology in Chile.

Through the interview, Marcela reviews how early settlements in different regions of Chile and discoveries in Taga-Tagua or Los Vilos account for a very rich history of the types of people who inhabited our territory, of communities who lived and felt just like us. There were groups who defied the adversities of the climate and adapted to different extreme landscapes with technologies that were innovative for their time, technological development, metallurgy, ceramic production, and the use of water in agriculture.

«Current claims allow us to value and recognize that past, which is ultimately our origins, and here research is the fundamental pillar for reconstituting the ways of life and traditions of pre-Hispanic eras.»

Among the topics Marcela addresses are the art and creativity of these communities, the legal protection of archaeological and heritage assets, the diversity of archaeological sites in Santiago, Chile, and the role of private companies in protection and care during their work. «Chile requires more resources to invest in the protection of archaeological sites that attest to our country's archaeological wealth.».
