Chile. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Paris, France. In Chile, he has been a professor and researcher at SUR, the Institute of Sociology at the Catholic University, and Cieplan. Abroad, he has been a visiting professor at the University of Notre Dame (USA) and the Sorbonne-Nouvelle University in France. He served as Director of Communications for the government of Patricio Aylwin (1990-1994) and has been a private consultant since 1994. He has been a columnist for various newspapers and magazines, and since 2002, he has been a regular columnist for the newspaper The Mercury. He has authored, co-authored, or edited over 28 books, the latest of which is Happiness is not out of this world (Ariel, 2016).
