Peru. He is considered one of the most important living literary critics on the subject of Latin American literature. Recognized by international critics as one of the innovators of critical reading in Latin America, he has also been involved in disseminating new literature through congresses, anthologies, forums, and collections. He is a professor at Brown University and has been at the University of Texas, as well as a visiting professor at Harvard, Yale, Puerto Rico, Cambridge, Central University of Venezuela, Catholic University of Chile, Granada, and Salamanca. He holds honorary doctorates from the Peruvian universities National Del Santa and Los Ángeles, as well as from the American University of Nicaragua.
