Chile. A Chilean writer and short story author, she is associated with the Generation of “50. She studied in Talca and as a teenager, she entered the No. 1 Girls” High School of Santiago. She experienced many setbacks in her life and took on jobs unusual for women at that time, such as taxi driver, shop assistant, and ranch administrator. Although she published other books previously, her work *Surazo* received the most recognition. With this book, she was awarded the Alerce Prize in 1961 and later the Municipal Prize for Literature in 1963. Other works include *El vaquero de Dios* (1949) and *Un lugar bajo techo* (1972). Several of her short stories are included in important anthologies, especially "La camarera," which won an award from El Mercurio in 1956.
