Chile. He was born in Cobquecura in 1886. He was a writer and a literature professor at both the secondary and university levels. He studied at the Pedagogical Institute of Santiago, where he worked as a professor of Spanish, Spanish-American, and Chilean Literature. After ten years of teaching, he was awarded the title of State Professor in recognition of his early career. His most representative works are Cuentos del Maule (1912) and Zurzulita (1920), which established him as the father of "Criollismo" and made him a reference point for other writers associated with that literary movement. In 1936 he was awarded the Municipal Prize of Santiago and in 1944 the National Prize for Literature. He died in Santiago in 1955.
