Histories of Archaeology in Chile

$32.000

This book was conceived as a collective work and written by many hands, selected according to the project's ideology, which emphasizes the decentralization of discourse from Santiago and calls for people specialized in and/or who have conducted archaeology in different regions of the country, including territories and maritime areas traditionally excluded from conventional narratives, such as distant islands and Antarctica. In twenty chapters, each addresses the histories of archaeology in a specific area, delimited by the research trajectory of the region and by the administrative geopolitics of the Chilean State. Undoubtedly, some texts traverse local history beyond their incorporation into the State of Chile, as is the case, for example, in Rapa Nui and the northern desert, but also in the rest of the country before its independence. The ultimate purpose of this initiative is far from attempting to exhaust them; on the contrary, it is more of an invitation to continue writing them, with ever more hands and situated in different points, even external to archaeology itself. As usual, our eyes are on the future, and this book is intended for those who will experience it.
