Hypermodernity and Mental Health
Reflections on the psychological consequences of nihilism

Attempting an exploration today is an essential task for any intellectual transitioning toward an understanding of what it means to be a subject nowadays. This collaborative work contributes to that search by showing us the interstices at the crossroads of hypermodernity, neoliberalism, and mental health. It is not so much a matter of how one affects the other, but rather of how the way of life that produces and generates distress is also imbricated in the conditions of current existence. We find a dialogue among Philosophy, History, and the Social Sciences as analytical tools that allow us to unravel how late capitalism makes its way into our Latin American societies and how it becomes a fundamental realm of the population's mental health. But above all, the contribution of this writing lies in how it stimulates us to think about an alternative historical subjectivity, so that where there seems to be determination, the power to imagine other possible worlds may finally emerge.
