In the Storm: Christianity and Marxism in Chile
From the Revolution in Liberty to the founding of Christians for Socialism, 1964-1971

One of the most notable features of the political and intellectual landscape of the 1960s and 1970s in Chile was the development of a process of rapprochement and exchange between Christianity and Marxism by those who saw in many of Marxism's propositions a legitimate way to transform Chilean society and jointly undertake the construction of socialism, understood as an option with contents akin to the Gospel. What this book seeks to do is reconstruct the political-intellectual transition of the relationship between Christianity and Marxism in Chile, from the beginning of the Christian Democratic government in 1964 to the founding of Christians for Socialism in 1971, interpreting it as an illustrative facet of the secularization process characteristic of the Catholicism of the period, which in turn expressed a social legitimacy that is practically non-existent today.
