Argentina. Economist with a degree from the Universidad del Litoral of Argentina and a Master's in Economic Sciences from the University of Chile. From 1970 to 2000, he was an official at ECLAC-UN, where at different times he coordinated research, collaborated in advising governments, and directed ECLAC System training programs. As an academic, he held the Bolívar Chair at the Institut des Hautes Études de l’Amérique Latine, University of Paris (2001-2002). He was also a Tinker Visiting Professor at Stanford University, California (2004-2005), a visiting professor at the University of Barcelona, and a guest lecturer at other universities in Europe and Latin America. His books include *Desarrollo y desigualdad social en la América Latina* (FCE 1981), *Integración regional, desarrollo y equidad* co-authored with Rolando Franco (ECLAC/Siglo XXI publishers 2001), and *Poder, capitalismo y democracia* (RIL publishers 2013). He currently resides in Chile and is engaged in academic activities at both ECLAC and the University of Chile and Alberto Hurtado University.
