France. Archaeologist, with a doctorate in ethnology (University of Paris V René Descartes) and emerita director of research at the CNRS (Centre National de Recherche Scientifique) in France. She was honored with a Doctor Honoris Causa from the University of Magallanes in 2000. For 36 years (1981-2017), she directed the French archaeological mission in Patagonia, primarily in the maritime territory of the canoe people, where her team has discovered over a hundred archaeological sites, from Chiloé to Cape Horn. She is responsible for training an entire new generation of Chilean archaeologists in Patagonia.
