Chile. He was born in Santiago in 1938. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1954 and was ordained a priest in 1968. He studied philosophy, theology, and sociology in Argentina, Italy, and Belgium.

He was provincial of the Society of Jesus between 1978 and 1984, and president of the Conference of Religious of Chile, Conferre (1980-1987). He served as rector of the Colegio San Ignacio El Bosque (1985-1991). Director, Mensaje Magazine (1973-75 / 1992-96). He took office as rector of the Alberto Hurtado University from its founding (1997-2015).

 Among his publications are Sharing My Faith (2013), Jesus' Questions (2015), Loving and Serving Christ (2014), and Thinking About the University (2018).
