Germany. Born 1946, Liechtenstein. Philosopher and historian of science. He has focused his research on the technical and historical analysis of scientific experiments and knowledge production spaces. He was director of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin (1997-2014), where he developed his theory of “experimental epistemic systems.” His epistemological approach highlights the uncertainty, creativity, explorative, and material nature of sciences, building bridges between the humanities and sciences, as well as between applied arts and experimental sciences. Among his most notable works are his German translation of Jacques Derrida's *Of Grammatology*, *Toward a History of Epistemic Things: Synthesizing Proteins in the Test Tube* (1997), *Iterations* (2005), and his most recent book, *Spalt und Fuge: Eine Phänomenologie des Experiments* (2021), in which he proposes a materialist phenomenology of scientific experiment.
