Chile. He was born in Santiago, Chile, on October 5, 1924, and passed away on December 7, 1996. In Chile, he was a fundamental member of the “Generation of ”50" and was part of the boom in Latin American literature. He published, among others, Veraneo y otros cuentos (1955), Coronación (1957), El lugar sin límites (1966), El obsceno pájaro de la noche (1970), Casa de campo (1978), La misteriosa desaparición de la marquesita de Loria (1980), El jardín de al lado (1981), La desesperanza (1986). His works have been translated into nearly twenty languages, and several of them were adapted into films. In addition to international recognitions and awards, he received the National Prize for Literature in 1990.
