The Place Without Limits

In "The Place Without Limits," the peculiar situation of a small peasant village is illuminated and universalized through the incorporation of correlates that deliver the underlying image of a hell, an upside-down heaven, a universe governed by the forces of evil. This hell has no limits; it is an ungraspable territory to which all men belong. There, despite social differences, largely responsible for evil, all are equal, a single destiny unites them and leads them to destruction. Although the beings who inhabit this world are capable of dreaming, yearning, feeling, and fighting, the pressure exerted upon them by the concrete conditions in which they live their lives or in which they were formed prevents them from escaping that situation.
