Chile. After a restless youth, he radically developed the writing profession in maturity. Among his works, the short story collections stand out Southern men y The criminal (which features his celebrated story “The Glass of Milk”), the novel Rail tip and various essay and travel books. His fundamental work consists of the four novels starring Aniceto Hevia, his alter ego. This tetralogy, titled Irredeemable time in its recent posthumous edition, comprises Son of a thief —perhaps the most important novel of 20th-century Chile—, Better than wine, Shadows on the wall y The dark radiant life. In 1957, he was awarded the National Literature Prize. He/She passed away in Santiago in March 1973.
