Chile. Born in Santiago on June 29, 1885. A composer, music educator, and researcher, he was the first Chilean musician to receive the National Arts Prize in Music in 1945. He studied violin and composition at the National Conservatory of Music. Among his most important works are the symphonic poem "La Voz de las Calles" (The Voice of the Streets), the symphonic suite "Escenas Campesinas" (Peasant Scenes), the Cello Concerto, numerous institutional anthems for schools and high schools, vocal and choral music, and the 12 "Tonadas de Carácter Popular Chileno" (Chilean Folk Tunes) for piano. His collection of manuscripts and documents was donated by his family to the Music Archive of the National Library.
