When Jaime Concha studies Chilean narrative, he composes complex chords that resonate with several cultural strata simultaneously. His smooth, precise, and erudite writing is certainly one of the most lucid works of literary interpretation ever produced in Chile, but we should also read it in its depth, because it is itself an overdetermined product whose layers of meaning we penetrate only gradually.
