Chile's Capitalist Revolution (1973 – 2003)

How can we explain Chile's economic modernization during the military dictatorship? How did economic liberalism become established in our country before the fall of the Berlin Wall and the conservative experiences of Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher? What phenomena enabled the acceptance of this neoliberal model? How were the economic elites shaped during the last third of the 20th century in Chile? This book not only analyzes the 17 years of the model's implementation and its subsequent consolidation during the Concertación governments but also reviews the historical background of economic liberalism in Chile and how, since 1975, the structure of the state and the economy were transformed, representing a radical break from the previous development model and even from the nineteenth-century liberal tradition.
