Luis de Valdivia, S.J., was one of the most eminent figures in Colonial America at the beginning of the 17th century, as a promoter in Chile of the Defensive War, a project for the pacification of the Arauco War in which the power of the kings of Spain, the viceroys of Peru, and the prepositi generales of the Society of Jesus intervened. The study of his life and works has fascinated historians from the very moment of his death to the present day.
