Catalog: 50 Years Thinking About Chile. 1973 – 2023

The dictatorship that our country faced produced a profound fracture between citizens, their identity, and their culture, which has led to reflections from various angles regarding the inescapable value of human rights and the way in which society can attempt to repair the irreparable. And, principally, to learn from that painful experience and disseminate it, so that we never again replicate anything that resembles it.

Since its inception, Alberto Hurtado University has prioritized research and the dissemination of these topics. Our catalog features a high percentage of books that, from their respective areas of specialization, account for the traumas that transformed our society starting in 1973.

“During the 17 years of dictatorship, there were acts of shocking cruelty and terror. The victims, those who survived, suffered damage and trauma that persist in their lives, in those of their families and surroundings, as well as in our society. This has led to reflections from various angles regarding the inescapable value of human rights and the way in which society can attempt to repair the irreparable,” emphasizes our executive editor Beatriz García-Huidobro.

Our catalog is part of that, highlighting all the research we have published since the arrival of the Popular Unity to power with Salvador Allende, moving through the involvement of the US and the CIA to overthrow the UP government, the rescue of archives, up to a study on conscripts.
