God opts for the poor
Theological Reflections from Aparecida

The V General Conference of the Latin American and Caribbean Episcopate held in Aparecida (2007) ratifies and highlights the preferential option for the poor. How does Aparecida understand this option? Is this a fundamentally social option or is it also theological? And if it is considered theological, what reasons give it this character? These questions are central if one wants to fully understand and value the preferential option for the poorest as the most significant contribution that the Latin American Church makes to the universal Church.
