Immigrant women in Chile
Labor or workers with rights?
When women migrate in search of better living conditions or refuge, it's not just them who are on the move. A long series of social mechanisms also sets in motion with them: institutions, symbols, social networks, bodies, knowledge, relationships, identities. This is the perspective of this book: a gendered lens that seeks to unravel the new and old forms of domination and resistance that are activated when women cross physical and cultural borders into Chile. The texts reveal discrimination, prejudice, and marginalization, while also illuminating strategies and subjective resources for sustaining identities and resisting with dignity.
