There is no garden in that beach house that the girl María Milagros auscultates on a scorching sunny day, perhaps in thirsty anticipation, without suspecting the resonances that a rugged nature will have on the formation of her subjectivity. She is ten years old then, extremely observant, and shows a special attachment to solitude, silence, and her autonomy. She observes everything and fantasizes; she pauses and lets a current of emotion and thought flow from the observed matter. She does not yet know that this behavior holds the embryo of an awakening that will have several stages. Her senses focus that day on a small puddle of water. And this is the effect.

Chela Reyes
Chile. (Santiago, 1904-1988), pseudonym of María Zulema Reyes Valledor, was a writer and poet who worked in various genres: short story, novel, theater, and children's literature. She began writing as a child and before she turned twenty was already collaborating in various national newspapers. She was one of the founders of the PEN Club of Chile and the Writers' Union. She received various awards, most notably the Atenea Award from the University of Concepción for her novel Green doors and white paths, as well as the Hans Christian Andersen Award given by IBBY. Some of his works include: Restlessness, Night wave, Elegies (poetry); Sound forest, The Foreigner stories; Aunt Eulalia novel; The motionless flame theater; Story of a white little black girl, The walking dove (childlike).
