This book has the merit of beginning its journey with vulnerability, the condition and root of our common humanity. We are all vulnerable, and in all of us, our vulnerability has been violated. Why is this the beginning and foundation of an unparalleled ethical dynamism? We are born into a broken and wounded world. We are born of gift and abyss, of grace and sin, of commitment and forgetfulness, of love and hate. What changes history is a vulnerable-violated heart that knows and recognizes itself as both wounded and wounding, and which, compassionate in the face of the wounds of others, reaches out its hand to the wounds of the other.
