Rethinking Public Policy Implementation
We live in an experimental society. From citizen projects to artistic interventions, the concepts of “experiment” and “experimentation” are frequently used to describe social processes and initiatives. Especially in the realm of public policy, a wide range of interventions on issues of public interest are categorized as “experimental.” However, it is often not made explicit what the experimental nature of these initiatives consists of or what their specific effects are. This book proposes a new analytical framework for understanding these political experiments, their scope, and consequences, illustrating three experiments carried out in Chile in the areas of health, transportation, and pollution.

Sebastian Ureta
Chile. Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado. He holds a degree in Sociology and a Master's in Sociology (PUC) and a PhD in Media and Communications (LSE). He has been a visiting professor at Lancaster University, United Kingdom; the Technical University of Berlin, Germany; and the Rachel Carson Center, Germany. His central research area is the analysis of environmental public policies in Chile from a theoretical perspective based on science, technology, and society studies. After dedicating the last few years to analyzing the development of Transantiago, he is currently studying policies related to the management of contaminated soils in Chile, especially those affected by the mining industry. He is also the principal investigator of the Millennium Nucleus for Research on Energy and Society (Numies).Related books
