The presentation of this book covers the debates and trajectories of Black/Afro-descendant intellectual thought throughout the 20th century. Topics such as racial discrimination, belonging to the nation, African origins, identity claims, social organization, among others, are part of this research.

In 2023, this book received an Honorable Mention in the Contemporary Black Presence in the Americas and the Caribbean Studies Category at the Casa de las Américas Literary Award.
