Medios | In the CNN Interviews program, Pedro Mujica talks with Alicia Contreras.

In the interview, Pedro Mujica, lawyer and writer, discusses why the far right has come to play an important role in the recent elections in Chile, Latin America and Europe. He roughly describes the factors that have influenced the rise of far-right governments around the world.

The author of the book Why does the radical populist right win? It explains the authoritarian drift of this type of government in the world. It recognizes that they have the character of going against social factors such as immigration, diversity, ecology, the rights of minorities, among others.

What do we mean when we talk about radical populist right? Pedro explains it based on voting: «This leader is elected by a majority and begins with a divisive discourse and a radicalization of society that is used by the populist leader through the messages he transmits; furthermore, he differs from traditional right-wing politics with a divisive discourse; the idea is to go against political parties and to bypass institutional mediation».
