Matilde Ladrón de Guevara
Chile. Santiago, August 18, 1910. She was born into a wealthy family, who also encouraged her in the development of her intellectual abilities. She studied at the Universities of Chile and Católica, and also at the Sorbonne, France. She was one of the founders of the Chilean Women's Party, created in 1946, and maintained a strong defense of women's rights throughout her life. Between the 1940s and 1950s, she was a correspondent for several Chilean and international magazines and newspapers, such as Ecran, Zig-Zag, La Tercera, El Mercurio, La Nación of Buenos Aires, Marcha of Montevideo. After the coup, she had to go into exile in Argentina. Some of her most notable works include: Antología poética (In)completa, 100 años no es nada, Mi patria fue su música, Madre soltera, En Isla de Pascua los moai están de pie, La ciénaga, Diarios y testimonios, Por ella: Sybila viuda de José María Arguedas. She passed away on August 22, 2009, at the age of 99.Related books
