The Future of Latin American Catholics

The members of the Manuel Larraín Theological Center, in this volume, offer a set of reflections on Latin American Catholicism, arising from dialogue and exchange.

It is possible to identify some common traits in all the articles, especially in terms of their spirit. On one hand, there is the attempt to integrate one or more perspectives from different fields of knowledge into the reflection on the situation and future of Christianity on the continent: history, sociology, philosophy, psychology, pedagogy, popular wisdom. In this way, faith opens itself to dialogue with rationalities and, in this openness, is intimately enriched and in its capacity to converse with contemporary men and women.

Secondly, attention to the “signs of the times” is also common. We live in a time of profound change. Therefore, careful attention to the underlying movements of history is indispensable. The aim is to interpret them in the light of faith, to recognize God's action, always significant and liberating.
