Nowadays, adoptive family configurations are increasingly heterogeneous, given the diverse characteristics of children eligible for adoption, the profiles of applicants, and the reasons why these families are formed. As a complex, multifaceted, and socially relevant phenomenon, intervention and research in adoption matters require constant interdisciplinary and intersectoral dialogue. This publication represents an effort by multiple stakeholders from various sectors and disciplines: authorities, professionals, and academics, who come together to problematize and analyze different relevant facets and topics in the field of adoption policies, interventions, and research, identifying present and future needs, critical issues, and challenges.

Irene Salvo Agoglia
Chile. Psychologist (University of Chile), Master's degree in Family Sciences (University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain), and Doctor of Psychology (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina). Lecturer and researcher in the areas of family diversity, gender, mental health, adoption, and alternative care in various governmental and non-governmental organizations and academic institutions. She was a permanent faculty member of the Department of Psychology at Universidad Católica Silva Henríquez (2007-2010), where she founded and coordinated the Family Diversity and Adoption Study and Support Group, Gedifa (Community Study and Support Center, UCSH), and faculty at the Faculty of Psychology at Universidad Alberto Hurtado (2010-2015). She has been a speaker and co-organizer of various events on the topic of adoption. She served as a technical assistant and specialized consultant for the Latin American Network for Foster Care (Relaf). Currently, she is the academic coordinator and lecturer for the Update Diploma in Adoption “From Theory to Intervention Models,” offered by Universidad Católica Silva Henríquez for officials of the Sename Adoption Department, and the principal investigator of the Fondecyt project “Adoptions in Chile: The Construction of Narratives on Origins and Identity” (2017-2020). She is the author of academic publications in national and international specialized journals on her areas of expertise and a collaborator in various national and international research networks in Spain and Argentina.Related books
