Przywara maintains that the Principle and Foundation is not a matter of Exercises, since he sets forth his theory of Exercises: it comprises within itself the truth of the entire Exercises. For this reason, it seems valid and useful to translate this commentary as a complete whole of the Ignatian theory of the authentic.
This commentary develops four capital themes: Man; He is created; For…; The other things. This expository sequence allows for a sharp differentiation between the place where the self-manifestation of ‘the One’—the personal—concretely arises, and the place where the concrete self-manifestation of ‘the other’ arises. It is then understood that ‘things’ devoid of a ‘personal self’ belong to the category of ‘the other,’ destined to serve man.
