Work plays a central role in social life and people's experiences, not only as a factor of production or a source of livelihood, but as a space for constructing identity, relationships, and society. Beyond the important debates and analyses on the labor market and precarious employment, and beyond the strong instrumental and economistic reduction of the category of work produced by neoliberal political hegemony in recent decades, it is essential to open new spaces for conceptual elucidation on work and its normative dimensions and implications for individuals, society, and democratic politics in contemporary modernity.

One of the most notable features of the political and intellectual landscape of the 1960s and 1970s in Chile was the development of a process of rapprochement and exchange between Christianity and Marxism by those who saw in many of Marxism's propositions a legitimate way to transform Chilean society and jointly undertake the construction of socialism, understood as an option with contents akin to the Gospel. What this book seeks to do is reconstruct the political-intellectual transition of the relationship between Christianity and Marxism in Chile, from the beginning of the Christian Democratic government in 1964 to the founding of Christians for Socialism in 1971, interpreting it as an illustrative facet of the secularization process characteristic of the Catholicism of the period, which in turn expressed a social legitimacy that is practically non-existent today.
Teachers in schools—surely more than anyone—understand and experience how national and international standardized tests, teacher evaluations, performance bonuses, among others, are an integral part of their work and constitute political technologies that are not harmless. Evaluation is one of the most widespread mass political tools for regulating educational systems. The purpose of this book is to put evaluation in the spotlight, under a magnifying glass, to examine it critically based on the accumulated knowledge in the field, and, in turn, to move towards a new evaluative paradigm and propose new possible scenarios.
