The edition of the Five Tunes for String Orchestra by Pedro Humberto Allende aims to enrich the repertoire of Chilean composers for string orchestras, a format with a significant presence in the country due to the development of the children's and youth orchestra movement. This restoration and valorization is part of the project for the digitization and editing of holographic manuscripts by 20th-century Chilean composers, with records taken from the collections of the Music Archive of the National Library.

Pedro Humberto Allende

Chile. Born in Santiago on June 29, 1885. A composer, music educator, and researcher, he was the first Chilean musician to receive the National Arts Prize in Music in 1945. He studied violin and composition at the National Conservatory of Music. Among his most important works are the symphonic poem "La Voz de las Calles" (The Voice of the Streets), the symphonic suite "Escenas Campesinas" (Peasant Scenes), the Cello Concerto, numerous institutional anthems for schools and high schools, vocal and choral music, and the 12 "Tonadas de Carácter Popular Chileno" (Chilean Folk Tunes) for piano. His collection of manuscripts and documents was donated by his family to the Music Archive of the National Library.
