Wars within the barracks

War within the barracks DOWN

During the seventeen years of the Chilean dictatorship, more than 370,000 young men, almost exclusively from humble homes, passed through military barracks as conscripts. In the first decade of the 21st century, nearly 100,000 of them began to break their silence and mobilized as part of a former conscripts“ movement, seeking pensions, benefits, and recognition as victims of the military regime. Based on testimonies, interviews, unpublished documents, and field notes, this book analyzes the memories of military service that emerged with the movement in the 21st century, revealing how Pinochet's wars were fought within the barracks between 1973 and 1990. The former conscripts do not share a single interpretation of the coup, the military regime, or its legacy, and the grand narratives of the ”struggle for memory" are insufficient to understand former conscripts' memories.

Memories of my life

Memories of my web life

In these memoirs, Martina Barros captured a contradiction: that of an elite woman who, through her reading and writing, assimilated the socially imposed feminine role, while also expressing her conviction about the new role that women should play in society, constantly questioning the private role of a patriotic mother. She wrote from her position as a mother guardian of the family and a shaper of citizens, but through this, she sought to legitimize her demands for education and autonomy for women. She appropriated the traditional ideal instilled through education to demand women's rights, which were defended in her writing.

There is no garden in that beach house that the girl María Milagros auscultates on a scorching sunny day, perhaps in thirsty anticipation, without suspecting the resonances that a rugged nature will have on the formation of her subjectivity. She is ten years old then, extremely observant, and shows a special attachment to solitude, silence, and her autonomy. She observes everything and fantasizes; she pauses and lets a current of emotion and thought flow from the observed matter. She does not yet know that this behavior holds the embryo of an awakening that will have several stages. Her senses focus that day on a small puddle of water. And this is the effect.

This book proposes new approaches for the initial teaching of the oboe in the Chilean context. Specific problems that must be addressed in the first stage of teaching the instrument are explained didactically and applied in practical exercises built from Latin American rhythms, harmonies, and styles, such as tonada, cumbia, and huayno, among others. In this way, oboe teachers will find in this Notebook content, sheet music, exercises, and suggestive ideas to complement the instrument's learning process.
