This book simultaneously accounts for the horrors committed in various Latin American countries, and the assistance and rehabilitation work carried out for victims during dictatorships and political transitions. In almost all countries, the end of political conflict has not necessarily meant the end of violence, although institutional processes have begun to address the past. The success of these processes depends on the internal political forces of each country, as well as international contexts. The cases illustrate the complexity of professional challenges, redefining work modalities based on approaches and conceptualizations stemming from the needs of the victims.
